Tryon Palace, New Bern, NCTryon Palace, New Bern NC. Originally built in the the 1770's to house the Colonial Governor, it was destroyed in 1798 by fire. It was re-built in the 1950's and offers a detailed recreation of 18th century culture. Walking garden tours are free year-round, guides in period dress offer tours of the buildings. Many seasonal events occur year-round.

Lost Colony Drama
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green dramatized the mystery of the Lost Colony. In its 69th season, Lynn Redgrave appeared as Queen Elizabeth, in one of the nation's most beloved outdoor dramas.

Old Salem Musem & Gardens Four museums - the Historic Town of Salem, the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA), the Old Salem Children's Museum, and the Old Salem Toy Museum - offers visitors an educational and historical experience about those who lived and worked in the early South. Experience early Southern culture through furniture, paintings, ceramics, metals, and antique toys. Aurora Fossil Museum, founded in 1976, is a non-profit fossil education resource center. The museum’s mission is to increase knowledge of the geology and paleontology of the coastal plains of North Carolina. The museum features exhibits, outreach programs and field studies. Aurora, NC

CSS Neuse Kinston, NC. Museum houses remnants and numerous artifacts of the ironclad gunboat CSS Neuse, a product of the Confederate Navy's ill-fated attempt to regain control of the lower Neuse River and retake the city of New Bern during the Civil War. A recreation of the vessel is also only display in the town of Kinston.

Fort Macon State Park  Atlantic Beach, NC. Located at the eastern end of Bogue Banks, one of a series of barrier islands along the North Carolina coast, the park is surrounded on three sides by water—the Atlantic Ocean, Beaufort Inlet and Bogue Sound, offering exploration of salt marches and estuaries of the coastal ecosystem. The park is also home to a Civil War fort.

Maritime Museum documents, collects, preserves, and researches the maritime history, and natural history of coastal North Carolina for the purpose of interpreting this history through educational services and exhibits. The museum has an active boatbuilding program, and offers environmental education programs, including the Cape Lookout Studies Program, which operates from a remote facility on North Carolina's Outer Banks.
